    Re: benzinepomp

    voor het gemak:
Not difficult. On the early models if it is a single EXTERIOR pump, it should be pretty easy.

The later models had 2 pumps, one inside, one outside. You need to identify your setup first.

Look on the outside of your fuel tank. You should see a line going from the actual tank, into a small cylindrical pump, and then into a fuel line to the rest of the car.

If you see this setup, you should have one pump. The way to remove it is a small retaining clip, using a philips or flathead screwdriver (to loosen it). There will be a 12v clip that supplies power, that needs to come off. And then carefully with the correct side wrench, take the fuel line off, it's going to spill gas out, so get something underneath.

The easiest way that I was able to plug the line from the tank so gas didn't go everywhere, was to find something like the end of a screwdriver that was round, not octagonal, and just stuff it up the line so it plugged it. You can also pinch the line off.

The process from there is to put the new pump in, hook it back up to the fuel line, make sure to clean off the copper seals first before you do (little copper washers), and then hook it back up to the fuel line going to the tank and put the retaining clip back on, as well as the 12v clip. It's actually that simple.

Most the time the 924 is tall enough in the back you can do this without jacking it up. If it's an exterior pump, it should be tucked up in the well just past the gas tank, passenger side of the car.

I'll link you to a picture of what it should look like, this is a picture of my 924 in my restoration process, and what the fuel pump looks like. Don't mind the dust, the car had been sitting for 10 years As you can see, there is a line that is held on by a metric size bolt, then the 12v clip (which you can see coming out of the side, with the rubber boot), and then the fuel line going to the tank held on by the fuel line hose and another retaining clip. The actual clip holding it into the well (the big one). That's literally all there is to it.

Keep in mind, the fuel pumps are very noisy on these cars. So if you did it right, you should be able to turn on the car and hear a pump churning in the back of the car once it's turned on.

I highly recommend upgrading to a Pierburg pump - Model # 7.21659.70.0 as they have a much better design, are cheaper than the OEM Bosch, and will last a lot longer, run quieter and are more efficient and not prone to seizing metal to metal inside the pump. You will have to order it likely from a VW specialist dealer, or someone who can special order them, but they are an excellent choice.
